Acne Skin Care Products

Acne condition can be handled by quite a few techniques, with a combination of remedies being the most effective method. Some common treatments include using topical creams, lotions, gels, and solutions. A number of effective over-the-counter and prescription acne skin care products are available for used in fighting acne condition. These acne skin care products work by killing the bacteria that cause the inflammation or by removing excess oil and dead skin cells from skin’s pores. The best products for treating acne depend on the severity of the outbreak and whether a person is taking medication for other conditions.

acne skin care productsA preventive action before acne breakout occurs is using an acne cleanser which is a daily facial wash to remove dirt and excess oils. These cleansers often use ingredients such as alcohol, acetone and salicylic acid. This salicylic acid slows down the shedding of skin cells that clog pores. The acid has milder effects on the skin than other acne treatments. It may also be combined with creams because it fights acne without leaving the skin too dry.

When pimples have formed, the most effective acne skin care products are those of spot treatments. Spot treatments usually come in the form of a gel or cream having stronger concentrations of active ingredients than those found in facial cleansers. An example of the ingredients used in spot treatments is benzoyl peroxide; this particular ingredient can help reduce oil and dead skin cells from pores while killing the bacteria that cause inflammation.

Only when over-the-counter acne skin care products are failed to solve typical acne condition more potent prescription creams can be used. This should always be under dermatologist’s advice. A popular example if such creams is the antibiotic clindamycin, which is applied directly to the skin to help reduce bacteria that cause infection in the pores.

There are other substitutes to the above mentioned topical treatments. An oral medication, for example, is a very common example of such alternatives. The rationale behind its usage is simple; since acne is influenced by fluctuating hormone levels, the oral medications must be consumed to regulate these hormones.

Another less well known alternative for those who are not interested in direct acne treatment is chemical peel. The treatment works on the damaged outer layers of skin with a mild acidic solution. It is believed to be effective in removing dead skin cells, clearing up blocked pores and boosting new skin cells growth. Chemical peels are often used in combination with a topical cream to increase their effectiveness.
