Skin Peel
A skin peel is a chemical process whereby a layer of damaged skin is removed from the face by chemical reaction and replaced by a newer, healthier layer. The chemical peel process works by applying a solution to the skin that chemically kills the outermost, damaged layer of the epidermis. This layer of dead skin then sloughs off the facial area over a prescribed time revealing healthier skin bellow. This process when done regularly can result in a reduction of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and other symptoms of aging skin.
The deepest peel doctors use today is the TCA peel, which is the most effective and safest of all the skin peels. Trichloracetic Acid peel, better known as TCA, is a popular chemical peel for a particular reason. It is a synthetic acid that has the ability to do everything that all the lighter peels can and more. It can reduce and minimize scarring, tighten the facial skin and rejuvenate the skin. It can treat more skin problems than any other skin peels.
The TCA peel is offered in almost every dermatologist and plastic surgeons office as it is the most effective treatment outside of actual surgery. TCA peels tend to work without causing any discoloration when the new layer of skin is revealed. The process works by applying the acid solution to your face for a proscribed period of time determined by your medical professional. Sedation may be required. The peel sets and then is removed.
Over the next three to 10 days, the outer layer of skin will die off and peel away to reveal healthier skin. It is important that you understand that the process is dramatic. Your facial skin will look horrible until it peels off, so you will need to take a week off from work and stay out the public eye. Determining whether you need a skin peel is something you should do in consultation with a dermatologist.
